Moving Up! Educators - BoardMath®
BoardMath® is a large-group math teaching strategy for Pre-K through 8th grade which is executed using a classroom white-board. As the Region 4 System of District and School Support BoardMath® webpage explains, “Instruction is focused on daily preview and review of essential mathematics content standards in all strands … features repeated teacher modeling, high whole-class student engagement, and emphasizes grade-level rigor, academic language and a deep understanding of mathematical operations.”
BoardMath® has been taught throughout the Milpitas Unified School District for a number of years in selected schools and classrooms and recently was added to the Milpitas Child Development Centers (CDC)s and Transitional Kindergarten (TK) classrooms curricula. By integratingBoardMath® in a developmentally appropriate fashion using DRDP (for Pre-K) and K Common Core State Standards (for TK) the students gain the benefit of math content practice and get a jumpstart on learning the routines and rhythms of BoardMath®. Getting in the BoardMath® habit early enhances student’s later transitions to the next grade level classrooms – BoardMath® time will be a familiar friend to these early adopters!

BoardMath - Let's Learn How
BoardMath® was originally designed to help solidify math knowledge around the Content Standards, rather than the Common Core, so many of the BoardMath® resources still refer to the Content Standards. Don’t let that deter you, however, from considering implementing BoardMath® in your classroom next year.

Visual Supports for Early Learners
Math Action Charts provide additional handy reference points for students in a BoardMath® environment. You can print these out, laminate them, place them near the white board area and refer to them to help your early learners see their math actions. Do your students wonder, "What does the subtraction symbol look like? How does subtraction work?" If so, quick! Download these handy posters and tack them up, pronto!
