MEET THE MUSD BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Mission of Milpitas Unified School District is to provide the skills, knowledge, and experiences that will prepare students to be successful for life. The school board serves a population of approximately 69,000 residents that covers nearly 13 square miles. This includes over 10,000 students.

What Does the Milpitas Unified Governing Board Do?
Think of a School District Like a School Bus
Imagine the Milpitas Unified School District as a school bus carrying more than 10,000 students toward a successful future. Every person on the bus has an important role, but each role is different.
The Board of Education isn't the driver of the bus.
The Board governs the route through input from the community, research, advocacy, professional development and relationship building with local, county, state and federal entities.
The Board establishes the district's vision, adopts policies, approves the budget, sets strategic priorities, hires and evaluates the Superintendent, and monitors student outcomes through the California Dashboard, CAASSP Data and other metrics.
Milpitas Unified has a 5 member Board that works together focused on its 5 strategic commitments
These 5 strategic commitments are the pillars to answer the 5 big questions:
- Where are we going?
- Why are we going there?
- What do we need to get there?
- How will we know if we've arrived?
- How do we sustain our efforts for future generations as times change?
The Superintendent Is the Driver with the Executive Cabinet
If the Board determines the destination and the route, the Superintendent is the professional driver with the Executive Cabinet, responsible for safely operating the bus every day.

District Employees Help Keep the Bus Moving
Teachers, principals, counselors, classified professionals, administrators, and support staff ensure every student has a safe, engaging, and supportive learning experience. Each employee plays a vital role in helping students reach their destination.
Students Are Why the Bus Exists
The bus doesn't exist for the Superintendent, Executive Team or the Board.
It exists for the students.
Every decision made by the Board should answer one fundamental question:
"Will this help more students succeed?"
Families and the Community Are Our Partners
Parents, caregivers, community organizations (PTAs/PTOs), Kiwanis, Knights of Columbus, Milpitas Rotary etc., corporations, businesses, and local leaders help shape the journey by providing feedback, participating in meetings, serving on committees, and partnering with our schools. Strong public education is built through collaboration and shared responsibility.

Your views on issues which do not appear on the agenda may be publicly expressed during the Request of Visitors/Open Forum portion of the meeting. If you wish to speak about an issue which appears on the agenda, please fill out a green card found near the entrance and hand it to our Communications Specialist. Copies of the meeting agenda are available at the time of the meeting inside the entrance to the Board of Education Meeting Room, or you can click on the agenda link on this page.
You may write, phone, or e-mail individual Board members with your concerns, ideas, or questions. The board as a whole cannot respond but your message could be forwarded to each member to read and consider.
