FlexFactor Program by NextFlex
- FlexFactor (partnership between MUSD, City of Milpitas, Evergreen Valley College, and NextFlex) is an outreach program that provides students with the opportunity to research emerging technologies and develop entrepreneurial skills while learning about the education and career pathways associated with the Technology and Advanced Manufacturing sectors.
- Student teams are challenged to identify a problem they care about, conceptualize an advanced hardware device to solve that problem, develop a business model around their product, and pitch their product to a panel of judges.
- Visits made to a local industry partner to understand the range of employment opportunities in the sector, and to Evergreen Valley College where students learn which degrees can help them become competitive hires in the future.
- The program’s approach inspires the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs to be cross-functional thinkers able to engage both business themes and technical considerations
AT CALAVERAS HILLS HIGH SCHOOL
Project Lead the Way (PLTW) courses
- Introduction to Engineering Design (predominantly CAD)
- Principles of Engineering (predominantly Robotics)
- Environmental Sustainability
Available to all CHHS students, the nationally recognized PLTW courses and curriculum provide hands-on, project-based learning. Students are required to take the end-of-course exam along with students around the nation. These rigorous, double-block classes fit a year’s curriculum in one semester.
Entrepreneurship Program by NextFlex
- Flexible Hybrid Electronics Manufacturing Institute is offered once for four-and-a-half weeks and another year for a shorter period. CHHS students learn how cutting edge technology can be used to solve societal problems, and developed their own product proposal and presented it to an audience. They participate in Manufacturing Day field trips to local tech companies as part of the program.
