Summer School Programs
SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
The 2025 Summer School Program is an academic summer program for current TK-12th grade students. In alignment with MUSD's Strategic Goals:
- Develop educational pathways that allow students to apply their passion for learning for their future careers.
- Focus services and support systems to ensure that all students are engaged in their learning and are making social, emotional, and academic gains.
This year's summer programs aim to support our students' skill development while engaging in project-based learning that promotes deeper understanding.
*Students invited to summer school will receive a letter and registration information from the District Office.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN – 3RD GRADE

TK - 3rd Structured Literacy and STEAM will prioritize foundational skills through structured literacy guided by the Science of Reading research. Students will engage in a hands-on learning approach that promotes the developmental and reinforcement of asking questions/defining problems, collecting and interpreting data, logical thinking, and demonstrating the ability to present and critique arguments/conclusions. *Participation by invite only.

The TK-3 Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) Summer Program is for students with exceptional needs who are at risk for regression and recoupment in the following areas: academic, communication, social-emotional functioning, or other skills identified on a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The IEP team will determine and identify students that are eligible for ESY services. ELA and Math instructional blocks are prioritized during the summer ESY program, which will occur in tandem with a range of fun and engaging learning activities throughout the summer. All instruction and learning activities are provided by special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers through both individual and small-group activities. Related service providers will provide speech therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling in alignment with the student's Individualized Education Program, which specifies the related service levels per student.

The Newcomer Program is intended for students who have enrolled and attended school in the United States for 12 months or less. The Summer Elementary Newcomer Program is a dynamic educational initiative designed to support recently arrived elementary school students' language development while immersing them in engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) activities. The program aims to foster language acquisition through hands-on exploration and experimentation in STEM subjects, leveraging students' natural curiosity to enhance their vocabulary, comprehension, and communication skills. Through interactive projects, collaborative learning experiences, and targeted language support, students will gain proficiency in English and develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork abilities essential for academic success. The program's innovative approach integrates language acquisition with STEM education, creating an enriching environment where students can thrive while building a strong foundation for future learning and achievement. *Participation by invite only.
4TH – 8TH GRADE

The Newcomer Program is intended for students who have enrolled and attended school in the United States for 12 months or less. With the use of Vista Higher Learning as our curriculum, this course is designed to support our linguistically and culturally diverse learners, leveraging the assets they bring into the classroom and addressing social and academic language needs. *Participation by invite only.

4th – 6th Gradient Extended Learning for Weller students is for participating students to have additional time to work towards completing their course work.

The Newcomer Program is intended for students who have enrolled and attended school in the United States for 12 months or less. With the use of Vista Higher Learning as our curriculum, this course is designed to support student language and literacy development by leveraging standards-aligned lessons that will honor their backgrounds and foster collaborative, respectful group work.

High School Credit Recovery is from 8:30 am - 10:30 am and/or 11:00 am - 1:00 pm. Schedule an appointment with your guidance counselor to register by May 3, 2025. Guidance counselors will be reviewing completed registrations to ensure students are enrolled in the appropriate classes. Credit Recovery provides selected classes for high school students who are seeking to recover credits. (English 1-3, Math 1-3, US & World History, Biology, Chemistry, Spanish 1-2)

A-G Credit Courses for English Learners (English 1, Geography, Math, and Biology) has content focus on all domains of language development. Introduction to reading and writing through various strategies appropriate for students to engage in an academic and social context. Project-Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning is embedded in the program.
