Milpitas Model United Nations students excel at Stanford, Berkeley conferences

Milpitas High School’s Model United Nations cabinet participated and excelled in a pair of Model United Nations conferences (MUNC) organized by Stanford University and UC Berkeley, competing against student representatives from all over the U.S. and from other countries.
At the Stanford MUNC, held November 7-9, 15 representatives attended the conference, which involved delegation of countries for debate of worldwide issues in assigned committees, along with caucuses. Students represented both as individual delegates as well as school delegation representatives in competition.
Our MUSD student representatives who received honors were:
- UNEP (GA): Honorable mention, Perlyn Chugh & Ethan Pham
- DISEC (GA): Outstanding Delegate, Tavishi Dani & Thara Kadalayil
- DISEC (GA): Honorable Mention, Anya Gattani & Rainah Patel
- East and West Germany (Crisis), Verbal Commendation: Jason Nguyen
At the Berkeley MUNC, held December 6-7, student representatives participated in the committee simulation activity that involved diplomacy, negotiation, and public speaking and writing policy.
Our MUSD student representatives earning awards were:

- Honorable Mention: Kaavya Desai & Munisa Gafurova Double Delegate GA, Commission on the Status of Women
- Diplomatic Commendation: Nima Bhavansikar — Specialized, First Cabinet of Donald Trump 2017
- Diplomatic Commendation: Anya Gattani — Crisis, Hype House
- Honorable Mention: Shreyas Sivakumar — GA, International Monetary Fund
- Diplomatic Commendation: Ayana Fahim & Rainah Patel — Double Delegate GA, Commission on the Status of Women Outstanding Delegate: Shourya Bokka — GA, International Monetary Fund
“Both events included representation from a large number of schools all across the globe. This included a highly competitive academic setting along with exposure to an array of perspectives in international relations and global policies,” according to our Milpitas MUN cabinet.
