MHS freshman Amari Sims continues his district-wide Teal Pumpkin Project

Milpitas High School freshman Amari Sims led his Teal Pumpkin Project for the second year by delivering teal-colored pumpkin baskets filled with non-food treats to each of our Milpitas Unified School District schools for students with food allergies.
“I’m continuing the Teal Pumpkin Project because I hope it brings a lot of happiness to kids with food allergies who do want to trick or treat with their friends but they also don’t wanna have an allergic reaction and have a life-threatening scenario,” shared Sims, after delivering one last basket to the MHS Wellness Center.
Sims, who began this Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) Teal Pumpkin Project last year as an 8th grader at Rancho Milpitas Middle School, is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and sesame seeds.
“I know others who have these allergies and I want to make them and myself feel more included on Halloween by giving these out,” he said. “It is kind of sad if you are trick or treating and you don’t get to keep any of the candy, and I believe it is important for it to be continuous throughout the years so they can count on it.”
