COMMON CORE

The Common Core State Standards, Career and College Readiness

Learn more about Common Core and how to help your student

Many parents and community members have questions about the Common Core – from what it is, to what they can do to help their children meet the Standards. In this section you’ll find resources to help non-educators build their understanding of the Common Core, discern fact from fiction when it comes to Common Core myths and take concrete actions to support students outside of the classroom. Here are some resources to help you:

Why Common Core Math Problems Look So Weird
Common Core State Standards (CCSS) provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, so teachers and parents know what they need to do to help them. The standards are designed to be relevant and robust, reflecting the knowledge and skills that our students need for success in college and careers. With American students fully prepared for the future, our communities will be best positioned to compete successfully in the global economy.
Parent/Guardian Overview Brochures
explain Common Core State Standards to parents/guardians, providing insights into what students will learn and highlighting progression through the grade levels.
