Howdy everyone! As of right now, I’m officially in my last week working as a summer intern at MUSD. This entire internship has been just a blast. Even though not every task I complete may be as exciting as the last, they all are a joy to do when surrounded by amazing mentors such as Scott Forstner, Van Le (thanks for the lunch-time conversations) and other staff members who are more than willing to go out of their way to help you achieve success. During my time here, I worked on a wide variety of projects such as photographing staff for the online directory; completing student help guides for students who struggle with audible directions; connecting with MUSD families for the Kohl’s Cares of Kids event; serving meals with the Student Nutrition Services team; photographing students at the Rose Child Development Center; and more. My favorite projects definitely were the ones involving photography and, of course, creating this blog. I loved working on the staff directory photos especially, since it gave me an excuse to walk around the different offices and get to know a little bit about other MUSD employees. This project allowed me to improve my portrait photography and general editing skills, which I use daily in my own photography business called Allies Photo Studio. If you are in need of any type of photography for events, businesses, sports or whatever, I am available. It has been a wonderful experience working as a summer intern with MUSD through the City’s Milpitas Youth Force, and I would definitely apply again! While this may be my last blog post, I can’t wait for everything that awaits me in the future. Goodbye everyone! I’m now in the middle of my second to last week as an intern for MUSD and just finished up my work at the Rose Child Development Center, which provides early education to preschool students ages 2 years, 9 months and older in both part-time and full-time programs. Working with CDC Coordinator Vanessa Espitia, I was assigned to take photos of students during their school day on the playground outside and in the classroom. They were very energetic and carefree, as I captured them playing on the slide and in the sand box. The kids would love to pose and look straight at the camera while I was taking photos. However, I have always felt as though posing for a photo is stealing away from the perfect candid shot that occurs only when the camera isn’t seen and no one knows they’re being photographed. Of my top images, my favorite was of a small girl who just happened to have this water net sitting on the top of her head. Her smile was contagious and made my heart melt at the sight. As part of the photo editing process, I crop (this means trim) photos to only have key eye-catchers and adjust the brightness and contrast. This is also when I delete any last minute photos that even after editing, don’t meet my photo standards. In the end, I saved 12 amazing photos, which will later be used by MUSD to help promote the CDC program. The Rose center was truly filled with just so much good energy and happy vibes as I’m sure the Sunnyhills CDC is very similar. What a great place for any young child to begin their educational journey. You can find out more about the CDC with this link. Howdy Everyone! I’m currently in my 4th week working for the MUSD offices and this week has been quite different from the rest. It started off with me working two morning shifts at the Student Nutrition Services (SNS) Department at Milpitas High School. The SNS staff ensures all students have an option to receive free breakfasts and lunches as part of their Free Summer Meals program. When first arriving at MHS, I was escorted to one of the few mini food shacks near the theater to then start giving out breakfast to summer school students. While distributing breakfast and lunch, I must keep count of how many meals were given out to then later input these numbers into a system. When not distributing food, I was mostly prepping the next meal and doing other general cleanup work as all. The breakfast students could choose between cereal or a bagel with cream cheese. As for lunch, students had a choice of a vegetarian burrito or pepperoni pasta. I ended up having pepperoni pasta for my lunch, which was just a tomato sauce pasta with pepperoni pieces. This meal was quite enjoyable and I could see why most of the students ended up choosing this item for their lunch as well. In total, there were about 30 students who got free breakfast and about 89 students who got a free lunch. The menu during the school year and the one for the summer school are very similar as well, though still different as the pepperoni pizza isn’t offered at MHS during the school year. Additionally, all menu items which are distributed have to meet the federal and state requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. Greetings, everyone! I’m halfway through my third week working in the MUSD offices and things couldn’t get more exciting and busy then they are now! I have been doing a variety of jobs. This week, I have been working with Van Le, a District Office Administrative Secretary, sorting through lots of kindergarten through 6th grade Reading / English worksheet books in the old theater right by the MUSD district offices. Each school year, the workbooks that aren’t used are sent back to the district office, we reorganize and rebox them by grade level and unit, and then ship them back out to sites that need them for the following year. Though this task is quite a handful, since Van is just such a sweet, kind, and considerate person, working with her is just a blast and makes time just fly by. Also this week, I have been working with the MUSD Human Relations Team to continue to update the staff directory photos. Since much of HR work is confidential, I had to schedule concrete times with them to enter their offices, take their photos, and then return to process the images. This takes quite a while as I like to take my time ensuring that every face has the right lighting to best enhance their features and showcase their best qualities. I found a love in photography back in 6th grade when I was about 11 and ever since then, I can’t wait to have the chance to have a camera in my hands. Hence, why I love coming to work everyday and being able to capture fun photos and have a chance to further improve my skills in photography and photo editing. So to cut a long story short, being able to work in such a fun and collaborative environment such as the MUSD district offices is such a blessing.
