Intern Insights w/ Summer Intern Allie, signing in for her 3rd Blog Post: AI in the Workplace6/26/2024
Hello, my name is Allie, a soon-to-be junior at Milpitas High School and 2024 Summer Intern with Milpitas Unified School District through the City of Milpitas' Milpitas Youth Force. I started this blog, "Intern Insights," to share my experiences while offering a student perspective throughout my internship this Summer!
Hello, everyone! It’s now the middle of my second week of working as an intern of the MUSD office and I’m having just such a blast! Yesterday, Director of Technology Chin Song held a meeting for staff with the target of showcasing what Artificial Intelligence (AI) is; how it can be used in the workplace; how technology such as AI can improve people's lives; and how to think of AI as your own personal assistant. AI is a great tool for writing emails to colleagues, your employers and even translating text into 156 other languages in order to communicate with virtually anyone. I too explored the AI program Khanmigo yesterday in order to form my own opinions on this technological advancement. From doing so, I gathered that it was a great help in forming phenomenal rough drafts to further build upon when trying to create stories or just write in general. Additionally, while testing out Khanmigo, I prompted it to help me craft a yearbook story on why math is useful. It helped set up the guidelines and tools to allow me to gather inspiration to continue writing the story on my own. Not once would it just simply write for me, dissolving the rumors that all AI is just blatant cheating and limits all student creativity. Ultimately even though AI may seem like a danger to some in the workplace or schools, from my perspective, it's more like a personal assistant to help you find the foundation for writing, planning and saving time. Intern Insights w/ Summer Intern Allie, signing in for her 2nd Blog Post: My first week of work6/21/2024
Hello, my name is Allie, a soon-to-be junior at Milpitas High School and 2024 Summer Intern with Milpitas Unified School District through the City of Milpitas' Milpitas Youth Force. I started this blog, "Intern Insights," to share my experiences while offering a student perspective throughout my internship this Summer! Hello, again! Allie here to share my insights on my first week working for the Milpitas Unified School District. During my outings around the office to help update our MUSD Staff Directory, I have conversed with a wide range of staff who all have such interesting and delightful stories about their journey to MUSD. One of the stories that stood out to me was the story of Raquel Kusunoki. Before she became Director of Elementary Education, she was a 5th/6th grade teacher at Spangler Elementary School, assistant principal at Burnett, Spangler and Weller Elementary Schools and then principal at Weller Elementary School before being promoted to her current role. Another interesting fact about Raquel is that her first language is Tagalog, so growing up she felt a bit out of place. However, this experience paved the way for her future career with a main goal of never having another student have to feel the way she did growing up. Raquel, who holds a Masters in Educational Administration from Santa Clara University, is such a kind, bright and cheerful woman that impacted me deeply since I too have English as a Second Language and felt similarly to Raquel growing up. However, attending Rancho Milpitas Middle School and Milpitas High School, staff always made me feel comfortable even when I may have needed an extra second to form my words or figure out the next thing to say on occasion. This really showcases how much emphasis MUSD puts on the Culture of We. Overall, I had quite the eventful week as a summer intern here at the District Office and can’t wait for the next time I get to check back in and write to you all again. Have a nice weekend everyone! June 17th was my first official day of work and I already have quite a lot to share. In my first hour here, myself and 3 other Summer interns went on a tour around the new MUSD Innovation Campus and met some of the staff in their offices along the way. While touring the new innovation campus, I learned about the history of this location, such as it was home to Samuel Ayer High School (the only high school in Milpitas up until 1969 when Milpitas High School was built). Moreover, in order for MUSD to honor its past and celebrate its future, they incorporated signed lockers from the old Ayer campus and personalized brick engravings of alumni and community members into the new campus, which encompasses the District offices, Calaveras Hills High School, Milpitas HS Extension and Milpitas Adult Education. Phase 1 was completed in August 2023; Phase 2 is scheduled for completion before the start of the 2024-25 school year; and Phase 3 is in the works as well. Other than just the welcoming, positive and modern atmosphere of the Innovation campus, all the staff here were just amazing too. I am so excited to share snippets of my interactions with them through this blog as I continue my internship here. For now, I’ll leave you with one more thing: If you haven’t checked out the innovation campus yet, you can learn more here or swing by and see the campus for yourself. The campus truly does speak for itself with all its open layout and modernized feel. |
