MUSD schools rank amongst the best in the state per U.S. News & World Report

Thomas Russell and Rancho Milpitas middle schools, as well as nine Milpitas Unified School District elementary schools, are ranked among the best in the state, according to the U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Elementary Schools and Best Middle Schools rankings.

TRMS and Rancho both ranked in the top 40% among 7,166 California Middle Schools. Our MUSD elementary schools also ranking in the top 40% out of 8,778 elementary schools in CA are:

• Curtner 
• Sinnott 
• Weller 
• Spangler 
• Pomeroy
• Burnett 
• Zanker
• Rose

“MUSD is striving towards World Class Education through our pathways for learners that our stellar educators design with a Culture of We in mind,” said Superintendent Cheryl Jordan. “Our community support with economic and skill-based resources fuels our efforts in yielding top results such as these.”

For each state, schools were assessed on their percentages of students who were proficient or above proficient in their mathematics and reading/language arts state assessments. Half of the formula assessed the scores themselves and the other half incorporated the test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics. 

For MUSD top three ranked schools:

• At Mattos, 82% of students scored at or above proficient level for both math and reading, far eclipsing the state averages of 43% for reading and 33% for math. Mattos has a 92.7% minority enrollment, including 79.4% Asian or Asian/Pacific Islander with 10% economically disadvantaged.

 

• Curtner students scored 81% at/above proficiency in math and 78% in reading. It has 95.2% minority enrollment including 75.3% Asian or Asian/Pacific Islander and 15% economically disadvantaged.

 

• Sinnott’s ranking was based on 74% math and 73% reading at/above proficiency. It has 95.9% minority enrollment, including 79% Asian/Asian Pacific Islander and 21% economically disadvantaged.
