The kindergarten team at Alexander Rose Elementary School was bustling with positive family engagement on Friday, December 2.
That morning, dads, grandpas, brothers, uncles and other positive male figures from 43 families visited the school for coffee, juice, donuts and discussion with teachers Alanna Aker, Xuanthao Tran, Wendy Lundeen, and Lisa Elizondo.
"Our goal was to involve dads and create a comfortable environment for them to reach out, get involved, and be a part of their childs' academic and emotional growth," teacher Lisa Elizondo said.
She noted that one parent came from a construction site on his break to be there for his son, and other parents arranged to arrive at work later than usual so they had the chance to attend.
"These stories were touching to the teachers and made the event that much more special," Lisa added. The school plans to host Muffins with Mommies event in May 2017, in honor of Mother's Day.
